metropolitan areas of the U.S. with a population of 100,000 or more
there were 788,672 reported cases of AIDS as of December 31,2001.
- In
the U.S. there were 522,265 deaths from AIDS.
- One
in 300 persons in the United States is infected with HIV.
- In
the U.S., one half of all new HIV infections occurs in people
under the age of 25.
- In
the U.S. , one in four new HIV infections occurs in people under
the age of 22.
- HIV
infection/AIDS is the second leading cause of death among adults
ages 25-44.
- Since
the beginning of the global epidemic over 10 million children
under age 15 have lost their mothers to HIV/AIDS.
- Worldwide,
one in every three children orphaned by HIV/AIDS is under 5.
